Heather English
Heather grew up in a working parents household, but when her parents wanted to
retire and drag her off to another state, the ownership of a dog became part of
the negotiation package. Soon after moving, and picking out a retriever mix puppy
from the local shelter, Heather got a job at a veterinary hospital as a kennel
attendant. She was only thirteen, but immediately realized how much she loved
helping animals.

After a year at college, and four years in the vet field, Heather returned to Michigan. In 1997, she got a job
as a veterinary assistant at a large pet complex, and her natural ability to handle the dogs was noticed by her
employer. She was offered an apprentice position in the established dog training and daycare branch of this
complex. Obedience training, behavior modification, dog language and how to apply this information in group and
private lessons helped Heather realize her career was indeed "going to the dogs."

At this same time, Heather acquired her first performance dog, a border collie who began training in flyball
and agility as a twelve week old puppy. This partnership brought not only titles and accolades for training, but
a deep relationship of love and teamwork.

The walls of ribbons has grown, and so has the family, which now includes: 3 border collies; two border/staffy
mixes; an Alaskan Husky, a longhair Chihuahua, and a cherished gray faced lab/shep mix. Heather's dogs excel
in flyball, dock diving, sheep herding, disc throwing and shaking hands. They are happy dogs who relate well with
humans and happily follow the instructions given by the young lady they adore.

Over the years, Heather has developed a course of training that successfully blends human behavior
modification with dog obedience to create a well rounded family pet. Her many years of supervising play groups
at different daycare facilities has given her the ability to read dog body language to maximize the fun and
safety of the dogs in her care. Heather has the knowledge to guide pet owners in every aspect of their
training and relationship, and the experience to recognize her limits in difficult situations and make specialist
referrals when needed. Her work at the Animal Neurology and ER Center on Welch Road has helped her
recognize physical issues before others might. With thirteen years of veterinary, pet obedience, dog sport, dog
sitting and daycare experience behind her, she can guide people with almost every aspect of their dog's life
and LOVES doing it!
